The annual Big Lake Ice Classic is a fund raiser where contestants purchase a ticket at participating businesses and try to guess when the 'ice breaker' vehicle will fall into Big Lake due to the ice melting in the spring. The winner splits the pot and the rest of the proceeds go for a college scholarship for a Houston High School senior.

Some sponsors also purchase advertising space on the Ice Classic vehicle to help give a starting pot. The Ice Classic vehicle is then towed to various locations for various events to give maximum exposure. This year we have entered it into the Fur Rendezvous Parade in Anchorage and hope to have it at a key location for the Iditarod  Restart.
